World Moms Again

I’m working up the energy to celebrate the end of 10 years of (almost) continuous breast-feeding and pregnancy.

You can check out all the gory details here: NEW ZEALAND: Bye-Bye Boobies.

About Karyn @ kloppenmum

kloppenmum is me, Karyn Van Der Zwet, mother of three and ex-teacher. I'm part of a revolution in parenting, with the aim to raise mature (not sophisticated) and self-assured children. I also know some stuff about adults. I have also had articles printed in The Journal for The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Children and Young People) and the US parenting magazine, Pathways to Family Wellness, as well I regularly write for World Moms Blog (named as one of the Forbes 100 most useful blogs for women 2012 &2013). You can follow me on facebook (kloppenmum) pinterest (Karyn at Kloppenmum) and twitter (@kloppenmum). I'm also vaguely on LinkedIn (Karyn Van Der Zwet). Thanks to Joe (Mr Hare) for taking the photo. Cheers, son: xxxx.

Mama K, I’d love to see a list of books that you have read and would recommend on parenting over these past 10 years (that is if you haven’t compiled one already, I do see you always make references on the bottom of your posts.)

    • Hi there,
The only two actual parenting books I would recommend are The Science of Parenting by Margot Sunderland and Nurture Shock, the other good one is Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. I will have to look at doing a full list, as I have been asked this before.

Hi, this is my first visit, I came from Kaet’s website.

Just over a year ago, I finished 7 years of constant pregnancy/bf/both at the same time, from my 3 girls.

    I enjoyed reading your post.

    • Hi Ruth,
      Thanks for stopping by.
7 years is huge, I hope you’re feeling like your body is more your own these days. I am slowly reclaiming mine (I wrote that post a month ago) and finding that I’ve got more energy! 🙂

It would be helpful, perhaps, to eventually also add a list of books and resources you especially do not recommend, and why.

    Wow, that is impressive.

I just weaned my last too. Actually, she weaned herself, and I was pretty ticked. She was 11 mo. and we were just heading into winter. Her nose has been running ever since. She had to have tubes put in her ears because she got so many infections. But she absolutely refused. Stink.

    • Oh no. Stink for you! And her, of course.
I love that she weaned herself: wish our boys had done that too… never mind, figure they all got a good deal. Now to reclaim my body!
